BTC vs. Alts Relative Performance Ratio (RPR)
Description:
Premium Indicator

Indicator Overview
The BTC vs. Alts Relative Performance Ratio (RPR) indicator measures Bitcoin’s performance relative to a market-cap-weighted index of the top 10 altcoins (ETH, XRP, BNB, SOL, ADA, LINK, TRX, XMR, AVAX, LTC) by normalising price changes from a dynamic starting point and applying user-selectable smoothing (SMA or EMA over 5–20 days). The resulting ratio line is coloured on a dual gradient, orange shades intensifying above 1.0 (BTC outperformance) and blue shades intensifying below 1.0 (altcoin outperformance), with filled area anchored to the parity line (1.0) for visual emphasis on dominance shifts.
How To Use
Values significantly above 1.0 signal Bitcoin dominance and strength, often coinciding with risk-off periods, capital rotation into BTC, and potential altcoin underperformance or local tops in alt/BTC pairs, while values markedly below 1.0 indicate altcoin outperformance, frequently marking “altseason” phases of speculative euphoria and capital flowing out of Bitcoin. Divergences, such as Bitcoin price rising while RPR declines, warn of weakening BTC dominance and impending altcoin rallies, whereas RPR rising alongside BTC price confirms sustained Bitcoin leadership. Traders watch breaks above prior highs for BTC dominance confirmation or drops below key supports as early signs of rotation into alts, aiding precise timing of sector rotation and cycle phase identification in crypto markets.
