Indicator Overview
The Altcoin Relative Performance Ratio (RPR) is a momentum-driven strength indicator designed to compare the capital efficiency of two assets over a specific timeframe. By normalising the starting price of both assets to a base value of 1.0, the indicator reveals which asset is providing a better return on investment relative to its peer since the chosen start date. It serves as a visual framework for identifying which asset is the current market leader within a specific investment window.
Dual-Ticker Comparison Logic
The indicator is built to handle pair-based allocation decisions by isolating relative performance and stripping out broad market beta.
Crypto 1 (Primary): This acts as the numerator. When the filling is blue, it indicates this asset is growing faster than the second asset relative to the start date.
Crypto 2 (Baseline): This acts as the denominator. When the filling is orange, it indicates this asset is the dominant performer in the pair.
Timeframe-Specific Normalization: The "Zoom/Reset" feature is the core of this script's logic. Unlike a standard price ratio, switching to a 1-year or 2-year view "zeroes out" the metric at the start of that period. This ensures the blue/orange gradients reflect performance since the selected date, rather than the lifetime of the assets.
How To Use
The RPR oscillates around a Parity Line (1.0), which represents the point where both assets have performed identically since the start of the timeframe.
Blue Gradient (Above 1.0): Formed when Crypto 1 is outperforming Crypto 2. A deepening blue suggests accelerating momentum for the first asset. Historically, this identifies "Altseasons" when comparing ETH or Alts against BTC.
Orange Gradient (Below 1.0): Formed when Crypto 2 is outperforming Crypto 1. A deepening orange suggests a flight to the second asset. This is typically associated with "Bitcoin Dominance" or risk-off regimes when the second ticker is BTC.
Mean Reversion and Parity: Traders look for the ratio to cross the 1.0 parity line as a signal of a regime shift. Crossing from orange to blue suggests a breakout in relative strength for Crypto 1, while a move from blue to orange suggests it is time to rotate back into the safety or strength of Crypto 2.
