Indicator Overview

The Portfolio Lump Sum Calculator is an advanced investment modelling tool designed to simulate the performance of a single, upfront capital deployment. Unlike recurring investment strategies, this tool calculates the impact of entering the market with 100% of your intended principal at a specific point in time.

It supports a wide range of assets, allowing you to backtest performance for individual cryptos (e.g. BTC, ETH), stocks (e.g. NVDA, TSLA), or complex multi-asset portfolios.

The chart visualises the Portfolio Value using a dynamic growth gradient. The color intensity shifts as the portfolio value matures, providing a clear visual representation of capital expansion and the high-beta impact of market volatility on a fully deployed position.

How To Use

The calculator is used to analyse "all-in" entry strategies and evaluate the efficiency of market timing across diverse asset classes.

• Customising the Strategy: Use the controls to adjust your Ticker, Start Date, and Invested ($) amount. Clicking "Update" will recompute the investment history based on exact historical closing prices.

• Creating a Portfolio: Toggle the "Create Portfolio" button to move beyond single-asset analysis. This allows you to construct a custom basket of up to 10 different assets (cryptos or stocks).

• Balancing Allocations: When building a portfolio, you must assign a percentage weight to each asset. The system includes a built-in validator that will alert you if your total allocations are above or below 100%, ensuring your backtest is mathematically balanced.

• Understanding the Stats:

1. Total Invested: The raw amount of fiat capital deployed on the chosen start date.

2. Portfolio Value: The current market value of all units (or combined portfolio assets) at the end of the selected period.

3. Avg Cost Per Unit: In single-asset mode, this represents your specific entry price. This metric is hidden in portfolio mode to focus on aggregate growth.

4. CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate): This provides the smoothed annual return of the investment, allowing for a direct performance comparison against traditional benchmarks like the S&P 500.
