Indicator Overview

The indicator measures the Total Realised Profit, which is the total dollar volume of profits realised on-chain each day by all market participants.

This metric is calculated by summing the total difference between the coin's acquisition price and the price at which it was spent, but only for coins that resulted in a monetary profit. It provides a direct view of the aggregate profit-taking behavior and the monetary volume of wealth flowing out of the system.

How To Use

Total Realised Profit is a crucial indicator for identifying the intensity of profit-taking across the entire network. Extremely high spikes in this metric occur during periods of intense market euphoria and signify a massive amount of wealth being locked in by holders. Historically, major spikes in this metric have pinpointed macro market tops as the high incentive to sell results in widespread profit realization that exceeds new buying demand. Elevated but sustained profit realisation is normal for a healthy bull market but signals that distribution is actively underway. Conversely, low, suppressed readings (near the zero line) are typical during bear markets or accumulation phases. Low readings confirm that profit-taking pressure from the market is minimal, as most coins are either at a loss or being held with high conviction.
