About Social Sentiment
The Social Sentiment Dashboard visualises a comprehensive, multi-metric composite of market attention and emotion. While the standard Crypto Fear and Greed Index provides a strong baseline, true retail and institutional conviction is often better captured by combining broad off-chain attention with the direct opinion of an informed audience. This dashboard aggregates the Fear and Greed Index, relative Google Search Trends, and the proprietary On-Chain Mind subscriber vote (**OCM Pulse**) into a single, unified **Social Risk** score. The dashboard offers five analytical views. **Social Risk** is the master composite, weighting Fear & Greed (50%), Google Trends (30%), and OCM Pulse (20%) to create a definitive 0 to 100 heat gauge. **OCM Pulse** surfaces the live bullish versus bearish balance cast directly by On-Chain Mind subscribers, with weekly and yearly history charted against price. **Fear & Greed** and **F&G Cadence** isolate the classic index and its 90-day momentum. **Search Trends** maps dynamic percentile normalisation across 10 distinct crypto search terms, from 'Bitcoin' to 'Crypto Crash'. The Insights panel provides context-specific metrics for whichever view is active, tracking rolling 7-day and 30-day deltas alongside period extremes. All view controls now sit on the top bar: five smoothing options (Raw, 7D, 14D, 30D, 60D EMA) on the attention views, and a Weekly or Yearly window on OCM Pulse. The composite line is rendered in a custom gradient palette shifting from deep blue for contrarian bottoms to bright magenta for extreme heat, while OCM Pulse uses a dedicated red-to-green scale for the bull and bear split.

Frequently asked questions
What is OCM Pulse, and why include a subscriber vote?
OCM Pulse is the live bullish-versus-bearish poll cast directly by On-Chain Mind subscribers. Unlike search interest or index proxies, it is the audience stating conviction outright, which makes it a clean read on crowd positioning rather than an inferred one. It contributes 20% to the Social Risk composite and is also available as its own view, with weekly and yearly history plotted against BTC price.
What happened to YouTube Heat in the composite?
Earlier versions blended a YouTube Analytics oscillator into Social Risk. It has been replaced by OCM Pulse, the direct subscriber vote, which captures audience conviction more cleanly than viewership proxies that tend to lag price. The composite is now Fear & Greed 50%, Google Trends 30%, and OCM Pulse 20%.
Why use percentile normalisation for Google Trends?
Raw Google Trends data is relative to the time window queried, making historical comparisons difficult. By percentile-normalising the data, we rank every single day strictly against all other days in the dataset. A score of 95 means search interest was higher than 95% of all historical days recorded, providing a robust apples-to-apples comparison over multiple years.
Why does Fear & Greed carry a 50% weight in the composite?
The Fear & Greed index is already a composite of multiple data points including volatility, momentum, and dominance, so it serves as a strong, mathematically grounded baseline. Google Search Trends (30%) and OCM Pulse (20%) act as amplifiers that capture retail attention and direct subscriber conviction, making the 50/30/20 split the current representation of social risk.
Does OCM Pulse reveal individual vote counts?
No. Only the bullish and bearish share (as percentages) and derived measures such as the lead margin and week-on-week change are shown. The raw number of votes is kept private and never appears in the chart, hover, insights panel, or any export.
What smoothing level should I use?
For the master Social Risk composite, a 30-day EMA is recommended. Social data is inherently noisy, driven by news cycles, weekends, and viral events, and a 30-day smoothing strips out the noise to reveal whether the macro tide of attention is coming in or going out. On OCM Pulse, switch between the Weekly and Yearly window rather than applying an EMA.
Can I view the raw data without the composite blending?
Yes. The dashboard includes dedicated views for Search Trends and OCM Pulse. Switch to Search Trends and set smoothing to 'Raw' to inspect the exact daily normalisation outputs, or open OCM Pulse to see the live vote and its weekly and yearly history on their own.
